Advocacy

United Methodists believe in love of God and neighbor. Our founder, Rev. John Wesley, was an abolitionist, and taught that Christians must practice not only personal piety, but social holiness, meaning actively seeking to advocate for those who are marginalized or treated unjustly.  All The UMC’s statements about social issues, known as our Social Principles, may be found at: https://www.umcjustice.org/

Annual Pride Parade: Pinnacle View UMC is a long-time participant in Little Rock’s Annual Pride Parade, which is part of the Central Arkansas Pride Festival held in October, during National LGBTQ+ History Month.

MLK Marade: Sponsored by the Little Rock Chapter of the NAACP, the annual Marade, held annually on Martin Luther King Day. The Marade is a time to celebrate victories and protest the discrimination that Dr. King challenged.

PFLAG: Founded in 1973, PFLAG is the first and largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and their families. The Little Rock Chapter meets at 6;30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month in the conference room at Union Station (1400 West Markham). Contact Vicki Dahmen-Jones at 501-860-3895 for more information or changes to meeting dates.

Green Team: PVUMC has a growing Green Team to address climate change, including recycling, seeking expanding the campus to make it greener, using pollinators, less lawn, more trees, and seeking solutions like solar and clean water. We also have a program of training called EarthKeepers.  See more at https://umcmission.org/earthkeepers/.
